UGANDA: PLANTING WITH THE ROTARY CLUB OF MUYENGA
FwB has partnered with Uganda Rotary to reforest 17 acres of scrub land in the village of Mpirmire. The forest will provide long-term economic benefits to the community and improve environmental conditions.
6900 Pine Carribea seedlings have been planted on 17 acres in addition to 43 fruit seedlings of oranges, avocado, jack fruits and mangoes. Some shrubs have also been planted to form hedges.
The administration and supervision work was spearheaded by Mr. Dominic Mukwaya, the Director of St. Paul Kaaso Primary School, who manages the Rotary projects in the area; he was assisted by 3 supervisors. Between 3-20 Rotary Community Corps members worked on this project providing the required labour. They have planted crops like beans, groundnuts and sweet potatoes on the suitable parts of the forest thus helping us to clear the weeds.
